Some of the young boxers featured in this work are from the Travelling community.

Boxing is an integral part of life in the Travelling community. Travellers are the indigenous nomadic people of Ireland. In Irish, Travellers are called "an Lucht Siúil" meaning "the walking people". However they refer to themselves as Pavees.

The most famous Traveller boxer is Francis Barrett who despite discrimination rose through the amateur ranks at events like this to represent Ireland at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta where he carried the Irish flag during the opening ceremony.
